A beloved Thanksgiving tradition is returning this year — much to the delight of Lindon City residents.

The Mayor’s Annual Lindon City Thanksgiving Dinner is back on this year after a one-year hiatus. The dinner will be held on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Lindon Community Center.

“We weren’t able to hold it last year because of COVID, so we’re very excited to be able to hold it again,” said Kathy Moosman, the Lindon City recorder. “A lot of people plan on this and have no other place to go.”

Those participating in the dinner this year will have the choice of dining in at the Community Center or taking their meals to go. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

“It’s open to anyone, not just Lindon residents, it’s open to anyone who needs somewhere to go for dinner for Thanksgiving,” Moosman said. “It’s just a really warm welcoming event. We want it to always feel like you’re going to your family’s house.”

According to Moosman, the city has plenty of food to host this event with donations made at the Lindon Community Center, food purchased with donated money, and even leftover non-perishables that would have gone toward the event last year.

The community has rallied to show support for the return of the Thanksgiving dinner, and all of the available volunteer positions have been spoken for.

“Volunteers have just been great, they’ve been calling, texting, emailing,” Moosman said. “Everyone wants to help, it’s really nice.”

According to Moosman, this year will be special as it will be Mayor Jeff Acerson’s last Thanksgiving dinner in office.

“He’s excited for everyone to come,” Moosman said. “It’s really nice that the mayor has done so much to keep this going. He gets the donations, he does the majority of the work for this.”
