Orem police arrest man on explosives charges
The Orem Police Department announced Friday the arrest of Scott Bowers, 46, an Orem resident, on a variety of charges after an employee of a business at 750 N. State St. was reported to have taken a vehicle without permission.
Bowers also reportedly was living in a trailer on the business’s property. According to the Orem PD, the business owner entered the trailer and found a box containing what was suspected to be explosives.
“The Utah County Bomb Squad was called out and a warrant for the trailer was written. The Bomb Squad located … blasting caps and suspected explosive materials. The suspected explosives were retrieved with the robot and during a final search of the area a bag containing ball bearings and small magnets were found,” reads a press release.
The bomb squad then removed and destroyed the found explosives, according to the release.
Orem police have also been in contact with the FBI as the investigation continues. A request for more information was not immediately returned.
Bowers is currently being held in the Utah County Jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance; possession or use of a controlled substance; possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person; reckless possession or control of an explosive, chemical or incendiary device; and attempted purchasing, transfer, possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person. According to the Orem PD, he was also booked on joyriding charges.
