The area where an ongoing domestic dispute has locked down four schools and sent one person to the hospital after being shot.A shooting and hourslong standoff at a home in Eagle Mountain disrupted classes at several local schools but was headed toward a peaceful resolution Monday evening.
According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the law enforcement agency received information of a reported domestic dispute around 2 p.m. One person was shot, he said, and later flown to a local hospital in fair condition.
An unspecified number of other people also were in the home with the man, who allegedly fired multiple shots. The sheriff’s office made brief contact with the man, Cannon said, and he put his gun down peacefully and surrendered to police.
The home where the incident occurred is located near the city center in the Eagle Park subdivision. The police had a search warrant and at 6 p.m. they were searching the home and speaking with the man.
According to Cannon, police were planning to arrest the man and take him to the county jail. The Utah County Attorney’s Office will also be notified and the case will be screened for charges.
Four schools in the area were impacted by the ongoing incident, with students kept in class until police gave the all-clear.
“We are aware of a situation in the Eagle Mountain area that is impacting four of our schools: Cedar Valley High, Frontier Middle School, Mountain Trails Elementary, and Eagle Valley Elementary,” an announcement from the Alpine School District stated. “This is a situation that is occurring in a nearby neighborhood. Parents will not be allowed to pick up their student until the Utah County Sheriff lifts the ‘secure’ order.”
The order was lifted around 4 p.m. and children were allowed to meet up with their family.
To “secure” means all of the students are kept inside and the outer doors are locked. Though school ended during the incident, the students had to remain in place.
