Stephanie Gricius, a Republican and former Eagle Mountain City Council member, formally announced her intent Thursday to run for the Utah House of Representatives in District 50.

As there is no incumbent in House District 50, Gricius is currently running unopposed.

In her personal life, Grecius is a realtor and entrepreneur, although her favorite role is that of mother. She has five children, in addition to being a foster parent.

“My family is the bottom line of why I decided to run for this,” Gricius said. “We are foster parents and we’ve seen some really great things come out of the system, and we’ve seen some really horrible things come out of the system, and while I truly believe that Utah does a better job than most states, there is room for improvement. And having lived with that system, I can’t sit back anymore. I need to do something.”

Gricius’ experience as a foster parent influenced her passion for child welfare reform, one of her key issues.

“I’m not running because I necessarily want to be in the legislature, I’m running because I’ve been living with a system that it skids by, there is so much room for improvement,” Gricius said. “I can’t look at that and not do something about it.”

Gricius is also focused on helping to create practical transportation solutions for the district.

“State road 73 is the main corridor that goes out to Eagle Mountain, Cedar Fort and Fairfield, and that road is in desperate need of expansion,” Gricius said. “Now, that’s not something the legislature will do specifically, but as an advocate for that area I can work with the cities to make sure that UDOT fully understands the needs of the area.”

Her additional key issues include transparent taxation, job creation, the protection of freedom and personal rights and parental involvement within education.

Gricius has lived in the area since 2010. In addition to her time on the Eagle Mountain City Council from 2014-2018, Gricius’ prior political experience includes serving as a precinct chair in her district of the Utah County Republican Party from 2016 to 2021. She also currently serves as the Legislative District Chair for Utah House District 2.

House District 50 was in South Jordan, but now covers the Eagle Mountain area, including everything west of Utah Lake to the border of Utah County, aside from Saratoga Springs. It was changed, along with other shuffled boundaries, during Utah’s redistricting process. District 2, currently represented by Rep. Jefferson Moss of Saratoga Springs, covered Eagle Mountain and much of the surrounding area before the boundaries were changed.
