Author Tyler Beddoes, a former Spanish Fork police officer, has released another book titled "Puzzled."

It’s been over seven years since the miraculous events of March 7, 2015, when infant Lily Groesbeck was rescued by four members of the Spanish Fork Police Department. The story of the 18-month-old’s rescue changed the lives of many, including Tyler Beddoes, one of the officers who aided in Groesbeck’s rescue.

Beddoes co-authored the bestselling book “Proof of Angels” in 2016 with Ptolemy Tompkins. It reveals many personal details of the rescue and his take on what he describes as an angelic voice that led the officers to Groesbeck.

Now, many years later, Beddoes has released a second book, “Puzzled,” which expands on the rescue’s impact on his life. The book also gives the author’s perspective on the struggle of being a police officer. The 64-page book became available for purchase Monday morning on Amazon.

The inspiration behind “Puzzled” stems from the conditions of policing in America today, according to Beddoes.

“Seeing riots of people saying that cops are racist do unjust harm, and all the negativity has gone on for so long that it was wearing on me,” he said. “I started to find myself falling back into that negative trap because of it.

“Police see so much negativity. People don’t really call the police when they’re having a good day. Most of the time, we see people at their worst. There are also a lot of good things that come from helping people, but there is a lot of negativities that weighs on us, and it gets pretty tough.”

A few years after the rescue, Beddoes and his family moved to St. George where he is a sergeant for the St. George Police Department. He does not consider himself a spokesperson for any police department. His book is an account of his personal beliefs and experiences, he said.

Beddoes revealed the book is supposed to inspire hope about overcoming darkness and addressing mental health. He had no target audience in mind when he began writing it five months ago, he said.

“The book is a really quick read,” he said. “It discusses mental health and a lot of similar issues. I didn’t want any added fluff. I wanted it to be short and to the point. It can be something that a reader gets through in 20 or 30 minutes, and hopefully it will have a small impact on them.”

Readers who enjoyed “Proof of Angels” can expect a retelling of Groesbeck’s rescue and an update on how she is doing seven years later in the new book. Groesbeck is now 8 years old, and Beddoes said not a day goes by where he doesn’t think about her or how she’s impacted his life.

“I realized that she’s had such a huge impact on me and many others who have read the book,” he said. “To me, she’s a walking, spiritual angel. She’s now seen the body camera footage of the rescue and has said that she’s thankful for being saved.”

Beddoes said he’s kept in contact with her father, Deven Trafny, who recently sent him a photo of Groesbeck.

Beddoes said he is very excited about the book’s release. He doesn’t have any future book ideas in mind but believes he will write more.
