A man was killed Tuesday morning in a traffic accident that occurred near the Provo City Cemetery.

At 8:17 a.m., Andrew Whiteman, 47, of Orem, collided with a van turning northbound onto State Street from 900 South while riding a motorcycle. Despite wearing protective gear, Whiteman sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

“Our traffic team is investigating the accident to determine the cause of the accident,” said Shad Lefevre, public information officer for the Provo Police Department. “The driver of the van has been cooperative with investigators throughout the process.”

Both north and southbound traffic was diverted from south State Street this morning after the crash while the scene was cleared, but the area was soon reopened.

In Pleasant Grove, North County Blvd. from State Street to 1300 West State was also closed this afternoon due to a traffic accident. According to the Pleasant Grove Police Department Facebook page, authorities are still investigating the accident.
