Halloween is just around the corner, and several northern Utah County cities are gearing up for celebrations for the whole family.

Eagle Mountain will kick off the festivities this Monday with its Seniors’ Halloween Party. Residents 55 and over are invited to enjoy games and dinner at the Eagle Mountain Senior Center from 5-7 p.m.

Lehi’s Halloween Party will take place Oct. 28 at the Legacy Center from 5-8 p.m. and promises to be a “spooky and fun night.”

“The night will be full of games, activities, trick-or-treating around the track, music, and spook alley!” reads the Lehi City website. “This event will be a fun night for the whole family to enjoy!”

On Halloween, the Point of the Mountain Chamber of Commerce will host a Halloween on Main parade. Kids are invited to come and trick-or-treat at businesses along both sides of Main Street in Lehi starting at Hutch’s Home Furnishings at 50 E. Main St. from 4-6 p.m.

Also on Halloween, American Fork will hold a Halloween on Main event where trick-or-treaters are invited to visit businesses from 300 West to 100 East on Main Street from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

For those who want to celebrate the spookiest season on their own time, Pleasant Grove’s Haunted Grove self-guided tour is back by popular demand. The city has compiled a map of some of the best Halloween home decor in town for participants to drive past and enjoy. To view the map, visit https://tinyurl.com/ypycn9hy.

For those celebrating Halloween this year, Eric McDowell, chief deputy for the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Eagle Mountain division, and the Utah County Sheriff’s Office provided safety tips for trick-or-treaters, homeowners and motorists in a recent press release.

Safety tips for trick-or-treaters:

  • Trick-or-treat only during the suggested timeframe — 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 31
  • Only visit familiar, well-lit neighborhoods and homes that have their porch lights on.
  • Walk on the sidewalk and observe all traffic laws.
  • Parents should inspect children’s candy before they eat any. If anything is unwrapped or looks suspicious, throw it away.
  • Make sure trick-or-treaters have a flashlight and are wearing costumes that do not restrict their vision, could cause them to trip, are flame retardant, and are light-colored and visible. Consider placing reflective tape on costumes or treat bags.
  • Walk, don’t run.
  • Never go into a stranger’s home.
  • Always trick-or-treat with an adult.
  • Notify police of any suspicious activity.

Safety tips for homeowners:

  • Only hand out commercially wrapped candy.
  • Only turn your porch light on if you welcome trick-or-treaters.
  • Secure pets.

Safety tips for motorists:

  • Drive slowly and be aware of children who could dart in and out of traffic or between parked cars.
  • Avoid distractions, like using your cellphone or listening to loud music, which affect your ability to see or hear children.
  • Never drink and drive.
