“My favorite Halloween memory is dressing up as a kid in the 80s and having my hair stick out to high heaven, bright green, and being a witch. That was normal back then. I wasn’t nervous until the next day — I couldn’t get it out. It was all ratted and it took like two, three days to get it all brushed back down. Yes, we did that to ourselves and thought it was fun. It just fit the costume. Oh, I never ratted my hair every again. Just a black witch costume, but I had this hair ratted out like two feet and bright green, but it was my real hair and it was a costume. We had fun.” — Cynthia Moyes, American Fork

“My favorite thing to do at Halloween is to go trick-or-treating at Disneyland. We absolutely love it, we like taking the kids, it’s kind of our annual tradition as often as we can. … We were there the first time they ever did Halloween Scream fireworks. It was totally amazing. There was so much energy in the crowd. It was awesome. There was a lot of people, I mean it was packed, because it was the first showing of it. At first, I thought, ‘Oh this is going to be nuts because of the crowd.’ No, when they did the actual show, the whole crowd got into it and everything, and it sent chills up your spine. It was so electrifying with the huge crowd, and the excitement of everything.” — Dennis Wilson, Lindon

“Probably trunk-or-treats or going trick-or-treating with my mom and stuff. Just the moment, getting to be immersed with my family. The joy of receiving what seems like so much, but it’s really so little. What I mean is, the candy has more sentiment to it than just being candy when you are at that age. When you are little, it just seems more important than what it actually is than just going and getting free candy. Like a little kid, elementary school. There was actually this old lady in my neighborhood who used to give out drinks. They were like homemade spice drinks for fall and stuff, and sometimes she’d have like caramel apples, sometimes she’d have just random things you know. It was just the love that she put into her treats.” — Michael Davis, Pleasant Grove

“Right now, it is taking her trick-or-treating and going door to door. She’s my daughter. And also, from growing up, going trick-or-treating — so that’s always been my favorite memory too. The first time I came to America, I’m originally from Africa, so my first Halloween experience was here in the U.S. That time I had my family with me, my friends with me, we had a bunch of fun, but I feel like that time was especially fun for me. I enjoyed it a lot. They really gave a really good experience from the first time ever experiencing Halloween.” — Nate Adair, Pleasant Grove

“Favorite Halloween memory is just going door to door and going trick-or-treating as a kid with a costume on. I looked forward to it as a little kid, you know? Dressing up with the other kids, walking through the neighborhood, collecting candy, and eating candy for the next several days after Halloween — friends, siblings, typical Halloween tradition. We had pumpkins at the house, jack-o-lanterns at the house, and just enjoyed walking through the neighborhood looking at other people’s decorations. Like I said, mainly we just were excited about knocking on doors, getting candy. … Favorite candy? Bit-O-Honey comes to mind. I don’t know why, it just came to mind that I used to really love that candy.” — Mark Hadnot, Orem
