Three Provo City School District schools will be undergoing construction or relocation this year, including Dixon Middle School, Timpview High School and Wasatch Elementary School.

Timpview High School is currently in Phase 1 of construction, which includes “building a new academic wing to replace part of the school that will be demolished once construction is completed,” according to Caleb Price, PCSD director of communications. The Provo Board of Education recently voted to approve additional construction services for Timpview.

“We recently hired a construction manager, an outside contractor, to oversee the Timpview construction project,” PCSD business administrator Derek Anderson said. “And due to the expanding of these extra projects that are further underway, the ask is to able to bring them on board for all of our projects for which we’ll then have some specialized oversight over those projects, and will allow me to be freed up to get to the other areas that need it.”

Costs for these construction services will amount to $70,560 for one year. The motion approving these services passed unanimously by the board.

Both the new Wasatch Elementary and Shoreline Middle schools have begun construction, with Shoreline further along in construction than Wasatch.

Wasatch Elementary is moving to a new location that is currently being built on Locust Lane. The old building has been purchased by Brigham Young University and will be taken over by the college once PCSD students are able to move into the completed new building.

The plan for the construction of the new Shoreline Middle School is to have it completed and ready for use in time for the 2024-25 school year. It is currently being built near Footprinter Park and will be replacing the Dixon Middle School building, where students currently attend.

Once students transition to Shoreline, the Dixon building will be repurposed. The school board will be meeting Tuesday and discussing what it should be used for in closed executive and study sessions at 4 pm.
