1 dead, 1 critical after Monday crash near Spanish Fork Canyon

A crash near the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon on U.S. Highway 6 left one person dead and one injured late Monday, July 3, 2023.A Spanish Fork man, 36, was pronounced dead on the scene of a two-car crash at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon late Monday night. The passenger in the vehicle, the driver’s 35-year-old brother, was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries related to the crash.
Spanish Fork Police Lt. Cory Slaymaker told the Daily Herald that first responders on the scene said the passenger’s injuries left him in “critical condition, but not life threatening.”
According to a police press release, the crash occurred just after 10 p.m. Monday at 3350 E. U.S. Highway 6. Officers on the scene talked with several people, including other drivers who were present when police arrived to the crash site.
“Witness advised a Westbound passenger car drove left of center and collided head on with a tow truck traveling Eastbound on Highway 6,” reads the release.
Police reported that the tow truck driver was uninjured. Slaymaker estimated that Highway 6 was reopened “around 2, 2:30” in the morning, around four hours after the crash.
