In an effort to become more engaged with the community, Breeze Airways employees spent the Pioneer Day weekend meeting residents and connecting with the people of Provo.

Flying, of late, has been a gamble for some travelers as over-scheduling, a workforce shortage and extreme heat cause flight delays and cancellations across the country.

Breeze, though, wants Provo residents to feel confident in their reservations. Ryne Williams, company communications specialist, said Breeze completed 98% of scheduled flights in and out of Provo.

Breeze employees gave out greeting cards as they roamed around Provo’s downtown over the weekend at the Pioneer Extravaganza at Kiwanis Park and at the Provo Towne Centre.

Williams said employees encountered several people that had already flown out of Provo and knew about Breeze, but were most excited and prepared to speak with residents who had never flown out of Provo.

“People know our offering,” Williams said. “We really do have a good product. We want to show Provo what we’re about. We want people to know we value our role at the airport.”

The company’s largest commitment to Provo came on a corporate level when they selected the city as their home base in Utah. The company participates in the pilot and flight attendant programs at Utah Valley University and signed a five-year flight and travel contract with Brigham Young University sports teams, excluding the football team which contracts with Delta.

“In the last year, we’re thrilled to have flown 100,000 guests from Provo and we look forward to welcoming many, many more in the years to come,” David Neelemen, Breeze founder, said in a statement for on July 13.
