Police are seeking information on the whereabouts of Solomon Lee Johnson, 42, in connection to an alleged burglary.

Provo police are asking for the public’s help locating a person of interested in a burglary case, though the department’s investigation reportedly has been hampered by a clandestine release of information.

A press release was sent Tuesday to select news agencies concerning Solomon Lee Johnson, 42, who is wanted as a suspect in an aggravated burglary that occurred at a residence in Provo on July 19.

The Provo Police Department said it did not have any connection to that release. On Wednesday, Public Information Officer Jana-Lee Holland provided this statement: “We have learned that a personal press release was sent to various media outlets yesterday afternoon. We wish to clarify this was not a Provo City or Provo Police approved release. The investigation is ongoing, and involves multiple agencies that are working around the clock to find the suspect.”

Detectives remain concerned about how this unapproved release of information might impact their efforts to locate the suspect, and potentially the safety of the victim, Holland said, adding that the police department has now chosen not to address the issue or do media interviews at this time. No further details of the case will be released, she said.

“We will, of course, update when we are able and we thank you for your understanding,” Holland said.

It was reported that during the incident the suspect brandished a gun and made threats to the resident, according to Holland.

“Johnson is currently on parole from a prior murder conviction, and has an active Board of Pardons warrant for his arrest. He is considered armed and dangerous,” Holland said.

If anyone has any information regarding Johnson’s whereabouts, they are asked to call Provo police at 801-852-6210. If seen, he should not be approached but should be reported to 911.
