What started as a small get-together in the Burger Supreme parking lot in 2003 has turned into a large, weekly farmers market in Pioneer Park where hundreds come out to see and taste everything vendors have to offer. Starting on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Provo Farmers Market will be officially open for its 20th season, returning every Saturday until Oct. 28.

The market serves as a place for friends and family to congregate and enjoy a Saturday in the sunshine with others.

“I love the feeling of community at the market. As a college student who is thousands of miles from home, I miss the feeling of a hometown community. The market definitely feels like home, though,” said Livia Hamilton, a frequent shopper at the Provo Farmers Market. “Everyone is friendly, there is a ton to see and taste, and you never know what treasure or treat you’re going to find. I always feel welcomed, and I love supporting the local businesses.”

Products sold at the market must either be Utah-made or sourced. Stubbs Farms, Gigi’s Gourmet Pretzels, Cast Iron Bakery, JJ Squeezed, Hatfield Farms, Cherry Hill Farms and Pyne Farms are regular vendors at the market.

“Think of any local foods you could want and you can find it at the Provo Farmers Market. We’re very lucky to have a wide variety of vendors at our market, with a plethora of locally grown and sourced foods available every week,” said Olivia Young, social media manager for the Provo Farmers Market.

Popular products at the market include fresh fruit, vegetables, pretzels, lemonade, honey, baked goods, blankets, art, meals, flowers, jewelry and more.

“Each booth is so unique. My favorite things to shop for at the market are bread, flowers and jewelry. I’ve bought homemade sourdough bread from multiple vendors and never been disappointed. Foothill Farm Flowers are always beautiful. My first stop at the market is always JJ’s Squeezed Lemonade, so I can sip on something refreshing while I roam the other booths,” Hamilton said.

The Provo Farmers Market believes that everyone in the community, no matter their budget or income level, should be able to enjoy everything the market has to offer, especially healthy, fresh food. Several vendors take SNAP and EBT benefits in addition to participating in the “Double Up” program, which allows the money spent by shoppers using food stamps to be matched and provide additional grocery shopping credit, up to $30.

Hours change to 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. in September. To learn more, visit the Provo Farmers Market on Instagram, Facebook or at provofarmersmarket.com.
