Utah Gov. Spencer Cox on Wednesday issued a proclamation calling for a special session of the Utah Legislature to align the municipal election with a special election filling the seat of U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart. Stewart, who has represented Utah’s 2nd Congressional District for six terms, announced May 31 he would step down from Congress in September.

It was not made immediately clear how the change would impact ranked-choice cities. The filing deadline for Utah County cities using ranked-choice voting — Genola, Payson, Vineyard and Woodland Hills — was set for Aug. 8-15.
