UVU, MTECH collaborate on path for nursing students to continue education
Utah Valley University and Mountainland Technical College have collaborated to create a formal partnership between the colleges, allowing students in the MTECH licensed practical nursing program to transfer all their credits into UVU’s registered nursing program.
Each semester, 24 openings are held in the UVU nursing program for those who graduate from MTECH in the same field and are looking to further their education. Transfer students enter the program as a third-semester student.
According to the institutions, completing MTECH’s LPN program first allows a more affordable option for interested students. With every credit being accepted through transfer, students save money and time by not having to repeat classes once they are enrolled at UVU.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students and our community,” said MTECH President Clay Christensen. “It’s amazing the good that can be done when prioritizing student success, and we are honored to partner with UVU on this fantastic pathway.”
Additionally, all of UVU’s registered nursing students have access to the school’s online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, making the process of going from LPN to RN to BSN seamless.
“Students now have an affordable and professional path to their educational goals. It is through our strong relationship with MTECH that we can provide the health care community with the workers that they need,” said Cheryl Hanewicz, dean of the College of Health and Public Service at UVU.
Mountainland Technical College has a population of 5,000 students enrolled in 50 different industry-based programs, making it the largest technical college in Utah. MTECH has campuses in Orem, Provo, Salt Lake City, Heber City, Spanish Fork and Lehi.
Similarly, Utah Valley University is the biggest public university Utah has to offer, with 41,000 students earning certificates, associates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
