For the past decade, Brenn Bybee has worked as Orem’s assistant city manager with long-time manager Jamie Davidson. Bybee became acting city manager after Davidson’s departure in December 2022 and, on Tuesday, the word “acting” was dropped from his title.

Orem City Council voted unanimously after a closed-door session to make Bybee the city manager rather than do a national search. Each council member spoke highly of Bybee and shared confidence in his abilities and character.

“He quietly gets things done. I’m very excited to have you serving and appreciate your listening skills,” council member Terry Peterson said. “I strongly support him.”

Council member LaNae Millett called Bybee “a doer” and said he has her support moving forward.

Mayor Dave Young noted the trust and respect the city staff has for Bybee. “There is nothing but praise for him. The city of Orem can know they have someone they can trust,” Young said.

Bybee expressed his gratitude during the meeting for the city staff, elected officials and residents in Orem, his hometown.

“While growing up here I never thought I would be doing this. I have a deep respect of the strong leadership Orem is known for,” Bybee said. “I’m confident that together Orem will be a better place to live, work and play.”
