Michael "Mikey" Mayer, 23, from Springville, was shot and killed Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023. Three people have been arrested in the shooting but have not been identified.

An investigation continues into the shooting death of Michael “Mikey” Mayer, 23, of Springville, who was killed early Saturday morning.

According to information shared by the Springville Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at 216 S. 100 West in Springville shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on a report of gunshots. When they arrived, officers reportedly found Mayer, who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and later died from his injuries.

Officers from the Provo, Mapleton and Payson police departments, as well as the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, responded to assist. A “lengthy standoff” took place at the apartment complex, Springville police said.

The Utah County Metro SWAT team was summoned and eventually took three people into custody. Their identities were not immediately made available.

Three adults are currently being detained for questioning, according to a police statement. No officers were hurt during the incident.

No additional suspects are believed to be at large, police said. Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The Springville Police Department shared its condolences to Mayer’s family in a public social media post.

The post said Mayer’s mother described him as “someone who lived to serve others and would do nearly anything for someone in need. He love gaming with his brother and fishing. Being a son, brother and uncle he will be missed by his family who cared about him deeply.”
