From the pressures of academic performance, social interactions and the transition into adulthood and personal independence, a student’s college years can be transformative but also overwhelming.

Because of the increased stress, anxiety and other mental health concerns that can arise on campus, Utah Valley University has expanded its well-being and mental health care services to students by partnering with TimelyCare, a free, 24/7 virtual comprehensive mental health care program designed to support student health.

“With the introduction of TimelyCare, UVU aims to break down barriers and ensure that mental healthcare is readily available to all students,” the university stated in a news release.

Through using TimelyCare on their phones or other devices, UVU students can select from a menu of virtual care options from licensed counselors in all 50 states, including:

  • On-demand mental health and emotional support called TalkNow.
  • Appointment-based mental health counseling.
  • Health coaching.
  • Digital self-care content.
  • Peer support community.

The services are provided at no cost and handled outside of traditional insurance.

“UVU is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally,” said Alexis Palmer, dean of students and associate vice president of student development and well-being in the press release. “By offering TimelyCare, we are taking a proactive approach to prioritize the mental health needs of our students and provide them with the necessary resources to succeed.”

The new virtual services for students add to other university initiatives to promote mental well-being, such as awareness campaigns, stress-reduction workshops and mental health screenings.
