Seven Intermountain Health hospitals in Utah have received a national award for top performance in clinical quality and patient care excellence.

Intermountain McKay-Dee, Layton and Utah Valley hospitals were among the seven hospitals to receive the Dr. Bernard A. Birnbaum Quality Leadership Award. Intermountain is one of only two health systems in the nation to receive the annual honor, which is presented by Vizient Inc., the country’s largest member-owned health care services company.

“To see so many of our hospitals being recognized on this list is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our caregivers towards patient care,” said Sue Robel, a registered nurse and region president at Intermountain Health. “It also shows whether a hospital be in a large city or smaller community, patients are going to receive the best possible care.”

Every year, Vizient performs a study of hospital performance based on six categories measuring quality of care. These include safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity.

In the category of comprehensive academic medical center, Intermountain Medical Center in Murray got the top award. Intermountain McKay-Dee, Layton and Utah Valley hospitals received top awards in the large specialized complex medical care category. Other Intermountain hospitals in Utah receiving the award were St. George Regional, Logan Regional and Cedar City.
