On Friday, the Utah County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team recovered a body in Pleasant Grove along the Battle Creek Trail.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report at about 10 a.m. of a body in the water along the Battle Creek Falls trail. Sgt. Spencer Cannon told the Daily Herald the body was found and recovered approximately 50 yards from the waterfall.

As of Friday afternoon, Cannon said they have possibly identified the deceased individual and are in the process of contacting and confirming with the family before their identity is released to the public.

It’s unclear if the individual was alone, Cannon said, and the sheriff’s office is unsure of the cause of death. The remains are being taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Because the trail is popular and well-traveled, Cannon said it is unlikely that the body had been in the water for more than a couple of hours before it was reported Friday morning.

Starting at $4.32/week.
