Man dies in crash after reportedly ramming another car, fleeing from Spanish Fork police

Spanish Fork police investigate a crash that left a 27-year-old man dead after reportedly fleeing from officers early Friday, April 26, 2024. The man was said to have been involved in a in a road rage incident earlier in the day.

A 27-year-old Springville man who reportedly fled from police after a road rage incident is dead after crashing into tree.

According to the Spanish Fork Police Department, just after 2 a.m. Friday, an officer responded to a call of a reported road rage incident on U.S. Highway 6 near 800 North. A man told police that he was stopped at a traffic light when a vehicle pulled alongside and the driver began staring at him.

As the two cars continued down the highway, the suspect followed the man and at some point started “ramming his vehicle,” a press release said. The man later turned onto Canyon Road heading west, but the suspect reportedly continued to follow and again attempted to ram him.

Police spotted the suspect driver near 600 East Canyon Road and an officer tried to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle sped off heading north on 400 East, with the officer eventually losing sight of the car.

Spanish Fork police said the officer went back to the area where they had last seen the driver and eventually located the suspect’s vehicle at 500 North and 400 East, where the driver crashed into a tree in front of a home.

According to the press release, officers and first responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man died. His identity was not released.

Spanish Fork police and the Utah County Officer Involved Critical Incident team are conducting an investigation.
