Detectives with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office executed multiple search warrants on two “fentanyl distribution groups” in Salt Lake County resulting in the confiscation of thousands of dollars and fentanyl pills, the agency announced in a press release Wednesday.

The Utah County Major Crimes Task Force spent two days earlier this week investigating the groups that reportedly were being run by foreign nationals, according to the sheriff’s office.

“These groups were targeted due to the fact that the drugs these groups were distributing were finding their way onto the streets and into the homes of Utah County residents,” the UCSO press release said.

Detectives discovered and seized more than 32,000 fentanyl pills; 1 pound of heroin; cocaine, marijuana and THC vapes; as well as over $14,000 in cash, according to the release.

Seven people were arrested as part of the investigation and booked into the Salt Lake County jail on charges related to the distribution of a controlled substance, the release said.

Five of the arrestees are citizens of Mexico and the other two are citizens of Honduras, according to federal investigators, UCSO noted in the release.

Starting at $4.32/week.
