Police were dispatched to an apartment building on Tuesday evening after a person called police saying the man, Melvin Robinson, asked the caller to help him carry his girlfriend into an apartment.
The caller reported that the woman’s face was bloodied and they initially believed she was deceased when seeing the amount of blood, according to a press release from Provo police.
Robinson also allegedly made comments about burning his girlfriend or “putting her in a ditch,” the release said.
The press release further noted that around the time of the call, police also received a welfare check request, supposedly from the woman’s parents, to check on their daughter.
When officers responded, they witnessed Robinson allegedly carrying a woman to a vehicle then dropping her and fleeing when officers ordered him to stop.
The woman told paramedics she had been hit in the head with a skateboard and choked. Her injuries were serious, reportedly requiring surgery.
Robinson was later apprehended and has been booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping and mayhem. Police are still investigating, with additional charges being considered.
