Driver killed in fatal I-15 wreck, causing heavy delays between Lehi and Pleasant Grove
One person was killed in a crash Thursday morning that shut down southbound lanes on Interstate 15 for a portion of the late morning and early afternoon.
Lt. Cameron Roden of Utah Highway Patrol told the Daily Herald the driver of a white Chevy Cobalt was traveling south near the Pleasant Grove exit when they reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin sideways. The Chevy was hit by a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a forklift on it.
The unidentified driver of the Cobalt was transported to a hospital where they ultimately died. The driver of the pickup truck also was hospitalized and sustained moderate injuries; a passenger in the pickup was not injured.
Authorities shut down a portion of I-15 from 500 East to Pleasant Grove Boulevard while crews investigated. Southbound travelers experienced heavy delays spanning from the 2100 North exit in Lehi to 500 East in American Fork.
By 1 p.m., the crash scene was cleared and lanes were back open, Roden said.
