Memorial Day events throughout Utah County will honor those who’ve served

Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer. Many are traveling by ground or air to destinations for recreating, while others will spend the long weekend closer to home.

To honor the brave men and women who lost their lives serving our country, there are a host of events and ceremonies around Utah County happening Monday in observance of the holiday.

American Fork

American Fork Fire and Rescue will host its annual Memorial Day Breakfast. Food will be served at the fire station, located at 96 N. Center St. from 6-10 a.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 13; veterans can eat free.

Tickets can be purchased by stopping into the fire station or online at at https://www.americanfork.gov.

Eagle Mountain

Eagle Mountain will host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Pony Express Memorial Cemetery, located at 4648 N. Eagle Mountain Blvd., starting at 10 a.m., weather permitting.

Fairfield

The Camp Floyd State Park Museum is hosting Camp Floyd Days on Memorial Day, which will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will get to participate in various activities and performances from the soldiers of Johnston’s Army and visit the museum. Entrance fees are $5 per person or $15 for a family.

Lehi

Lehi City is hosting its Remember and Honor event Monday from 9-10 a.m. at Lehi City Cemetery, 1525 N. 600 East. Hosted by Lehi City, the American Legion Post 19 and the Lehi Arts Council, the event features a tribute to the men and women who have served our country. Attendees can explore the honor wall as a reminder of the sacrifice made by Lehi veterans.

Lindon

Lindon City invites citizens to its Memorial Day Program, starting at 9 a.m. at the Lindon City Cemetery, located at 550 N. 200 East. The event will feature patriotic music numbers, remarks, a reading of names to be added to the memorial monument, a 21-gun salute and a flag exchange.

Orem

Orem City will be hosting a Memorial Day Program at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 N. 800 East, at 10 a.m. Monday. The program will include a flag ceremony, musical performances and a 21-gun salute.

The Veteran’s Lounge is hosting a Memorial Day Ruck/Walk Event starting at the cemetery at 8 a.m. Participants will then walk to the Lindon Cemetery and then Pleasant Grove Cemetery, stopping at each to honor veterans buried in the cemeteries. Tickets for the event can be purchased at https://www.thevetlounge.org.

Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove City presents its annual Memorial Day service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, starting at 9 a.m. Monday. The event honors the men and women who have served the country.

Provo

America’s Freedom Festival in conjunction with Provo City Veterans Council will honor fallen heroes in a Memorial Day Service.

The Timpview High School Band will lead the event off with a drum cadence, followed by a welcome, the pledge of allegiance, singing of the national anthem and a host of speakers including Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi honoring veterans. Patriotic musical numbers and a 21-gun salute by the Provo Police Department SWAT team will close the ceremony. The event starts at 10 a.m. and is free to the public.

In case of inclement weather, organizers may be move the event to the Covey Center for the Arts.

Salem

Salem City will host a Memorial Day service at the Salem City Cemetery at 8 a.m. Monday. The local American Legion will do a flag ceremony and 21-gun salute.

Springville

Former Gov. Gary Herbert will be the keynote speaker for a Memorial Day Tribute hosted at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday. Other speakers include Jeanette Herbert and Springville Mayor Matt Packard. The Springville-Mapleton American Legion will be conducting the tribute to honor veterans.
