Election results for 21 state legislative races in Utah County trickled in late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

Based on unofficial results so far, each seat is expected to remain in Republican control.

In Utah County’s five state Senate races, four incumbents are poised to be reelected while one newcomer, Keven Stratton, will likely join the chamber’s ranks. He led opponent Lori Spruance (unaffiliated) with 65% of the vote in Senate District 24, which covers parts of Orem, Provo and rural Wasatch County.

Stratton, who currently is a state representative in House District 58, would replace Curtis Bramble, who announced his retirement earlier this year after six terms.

In other Senate races up for grabs, incumbent Republican Mike McKell is ahead of Democrat Alan Hansen in District 25, an area covering much of southern Utah County, with 78% of the vote.

In District 26, which covers Springville and Mapleton down to southeast Utah, Republican Sen. David Hinkins appears the winner of a three-person race over Democrat Corbin Frost and unaffiliated candidate Oran Stainbrook, holding 73% of the vote.

The Utah County House races suggest 13 incumbents will be reelected, while three new candidates will fill positions, including Republican David Shallenberger, who leads Democrat Joshua Sorensen with 76% of the vote in a battle to replace Stratton in House District 58, which covers parts of Provo, Orem and Lindon.

Republican Brady Brammer, who won a special election to replace Mike Kennedy as District 54 representative last Saturday, went unopposed and is the presumed winner, as is Republican Lisa Shepherd in District 61, who will replace Marsha Judkins, who chose not run for reelection in the west Provo district.

Expected incumbent peers in the House include a pair of longtime Republican legislators in neighboring Lehi districts. Cory Maloy is poised to defeat Democrat challenger Michael Keller in House District 52, leading 72% to 28%, and Kay Christofferson had 80% of the vote against United Utah candidate Alex Day in House District 53.

Republican Nelson Abbott likely will have a third term as the representative for House District 57, which covers parts of Orem and Vineyard, up 72% to 28% on Democrat Alan Keele.

In the southern part of the county, Rep. Norm Thurston, the Republican incumbent in House District 62, appears victorious against Democrat Kevin Slater, leading with 64% of votes. The area covers parts of Provo and Springville.

Republican Stephen Whyte is poised to defeat Democrat challenger Mark Youngquist in House District 63 that covers parts of Springville, Mapleton and Spanish Fork, holding 80% of the vote.

Republican incumbent Jeff Burton is the presumed winner over Democrat Rick Dougan in House District 64, covering parts of Salem and Spanish Fork, leading 83% to 17%, and Republican incumbent Douglas Welton is poised to defeat Democrat Joseph Hansen in House District 65, which covers Payson and Santaquin, also up 83% to 17%.

Two Senate districts that cover portions of Utah County had unopposed races. Republican Heidi Balderee unofficially claimed reelection in District 22, which covers parts of Lehi, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs and Draper, while Republican Derrin Owens is expected to remain the senator for District 27, covering the southern tip of Utah County down to central and southern Utah.

Incumbents who went unopposed in the House include Stephanie Gricius (District 50), Jefferson Moss (District 51), Jon Hawkins (District 55), Val Peterson (District 56), Tyler Clancy (District 60) and Troy Shelley (District 66).

The Utah County ballot also included a handful of state school board races, with Republican Cole Kelley leading the vote for District 12 over nonpartisan Jason Allen 69% to 31%. District 12 covers parts of Orem and Lindon.

District 10, a multicounty position that includes part of Utah County, is led by incumbent Republican Matt Hymas over Democrat challenger Deborah Gatrell 73% to 27%, and Republican Randy Boothe went unopposed in District 13, which covers Provo and much of south Utah County.
