A detour sign is present along a section of the Jordan River Parkway trail in Lehi south of Thanksgiving Point on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The Jordan River Parkway Trail in Lehi attracts recreation enthusiasts from across Utah County to enjoy biking, walking and opportunities to be at one with nature.

Repairs are currently underway to shore up several sections of the trail that incurred damages due to extreme weather in recent years.

Crews with Utah County Public Works, which manages the Utah County portion of the multicounty trail, are in the final stages of their remediation project near the area of 2100 North in Lehi, a press release issued Monday stated.

Frequent trail users may have noticed detour signs and construction efforts present in the area.

The project began in January and crews are dialed in on repairing three key sections of the trail: the north end, middle and south end, according to the release.

A photo from 2024 shows deteriorating pavement and dirt along the bank of a section of the Jordan River Parkway Trail in Lehi.

Two areas in particular previously raised concerns among residents.

Along the trail near Thanksgiving Point, deteriorating concrete near the bank of the river where pieces of pavement and dirt fell off and into water were clearly visible.

The issue became apparent for one Lehi woman after flooding in 2023. She told KUER at the time that she feared the conditions may worsen and lead to someone accidentally falling into the river.

Utah County says repairs along that section of the trail have been completed. However, the Thanksgiving Point Trailhead Park’s parking lot will continue to serve as a staging area for construction equipment until the project concludes.

Due to erosion that impacted the north end section of the trail, bank stabilization reportedly was needed, according to Utah County.

“That stabilization work is now complete, and the trail reconstruction phase, which includes asphalt paving once temperatures are sufficiently warm, is set to begin soon,” Utah County said in the release.

Improvement efforts are also happening in the south end section, near the 2100 North overpass. Trail bank excavation and reconstruction are currently underway and is more than halfway completed.

“This project is addressing urgent safety issues along the trail, but it is also a testament to our commitment to continuously improving the trail into the future,” County Commissioner Skyler Beltran told the Daily Herald in a statement.

As the Daily Herald reported in February, Utah County commissioners recently voted in favor of reviving its partnership with the Jordan River Commission after a seven-year hiatus from its membership with the group.

The Utah County portion of the trail spans 9 miles along the Jordan River, snaking through Lehi and Saratoga Springs, where it then flows into Utah Lake.

“Maintaining the Jordan River Trail is important to Utah County,” Beltran said. “The trail provides not only a transportation network for those commuting to work but also a recreational amenity for our residents to walk, run, bike and enjoy some fresh air.”

Utah County expects the project to be completed by May 15, with the trail slated to reopen shortly thereafter.

Until then, people are asked to be vigilant of public safety during remaining construction, as the Jordan River Trail is temporarily closed from just south of the intersection with the Murdock Canal Trail to the Olympic Park.

Detour signs are present and will guide trail users along alternate routes.
