Food & Care Coalition: Reflecting on the past 3 million meals later

The Food and Care Coalition in Provo. This season naturally invites reflection – on where we’ve come from and where we are headed.
In the fall of 1988, the Food and Care Coalition opened its doors in a little old house in Provo, born from the efforts of local clergy and community advocates. From those humble beginnings as a simple soup kitchen, we have grown into a fully integrated resource center serving those experiencing poverty and homelessness in Utah County.
While we recently celebrated serving our 3 millionth meal, our mission has never been just about food. We strive to offer a hand up, not a handout. In addition to serving meals every day of the year, we provide 110 safe and comfortable housing units along with showers and laundry facilities.
Through our collaborative network of onsite partners, we also offer mental health counseling, medical and dental care, education programs and more.
The greatest man who ever lived reminded us that the poor will always be among us. Yet thanks to the compassion and generosity of our community, we can – and will – continue to mitigate the effects of poverty and homelessness every day. Through our proven, grassroots, community-driven approach, we build hope, dignity and self-reliance for those in need.
From all of us at the Food and Care Coalition, a heartfelt thank you. We wish you all the joys and blessings of this season, and a happy, hopeful new year. For more information, call 801-373-1825 or visit foodandcare.org.
