Hosted by the Utah Lake Authority, Day 1 of the first competition starts at 7:39 a.m. Saturday at Utah Lake State Park in Provo.
Day 2 commences at the same time and location Sunday morning.
The yearlong contest will have 10 separate competitions, typically on the final weekend of the month at various public marinas.
ULA Deputy Director Sam Braegger told the Daily Herald in January that the competition is one of many measures to remove carp, a nonnative fish at Utah Lake.
Teams of up to five anglers are invited to participate. There is a $1,000 prize for the team that catches the most carp in a given competition and a $5,000 prize for the team that catches the most carp in the year.
Each tournament begins 30 minutes after sunrise and ends six hours after the designated start time, the rules state. Boat anglers are permitted to launch 90 minutes prior to the start time.
Registration and check-in for the tournament closes 15 minutes prior to the tournament’s start time. Participants are auto-enrolled for the next competitions. There is a $20 entry fee per person for the entire year.
