A Utah County Sheriff's Office vehicle is shown Sept. 27, 2024, outside of Utah Lake State Park.

An 82-year-old woman collapsed and died Tuesday on the Stewart Falls Trail, according to police.

The incident occurred around noon while the woman was hiking on the trial with her friends, Sgt. Raymond Ormond of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said.

Her friends initiated life-saving measures until North Fork Fire and Rescue and Life Flight arrived at similar times and took over medical aid, but she was ultimately pronounced dead, Ormond said.

Life Flight brought the women’s body to the parking lot at the Stuart Falls Trailhead on Tuesday afternoon. Ormond said contact was made with the women’s doctor, and the situation is being considered an “attended death” because she had a preexisting medical condition that attributed to the incident.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue also responded to the scene.

The name of the woman is not being released at this time.

Stewart Falls is located in Provo Canyon near Sundance Resort.
