A Lehi man was among three people who died in an airplane crash near Yellowstone National Park last week.

Kurt Enoch Robey, 55, was on board a plane that crashed south of West Yellowstone, Montana, Thursday night, according to a release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office issued Monday.

Rodney Conover, 60, and Madison Conover, 23, of Tennessee were also identified in the crash.

A plane departed the Yellowstone Airport late Thursday night, according to the sheriff’s report. On Friday afternoon, the West Yellowstone Dispatch received a call of a possible crash.

Relying on the last location of a passenger’s smart watch, two search planes found the downed aircraft Friday in “dense timber” just south of West Yellowstone, the sheriff’s office said. Emergency response teams were deployed to the scene and confirmed the three occupants were dead.

“Sheriff (Dan) Springer would like to extend his deepest condolences to the Conover and Robey families for their respective losses,” a release said.

A GoFundMe campaign was set up by Zoe Spottiswood, who identified herself as Robey’s stepdaughter. “We are heartbroken over his loss, but grateful that he was doing what he loved: Flying,” Spottiswood said in a post on the crowdfunding website.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.

Starting at $4.32/week.
