Residents in northwest Utah County could have a new post office within close proximity, thanks to proposed legislation by U.S. Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah.

In a press release issued Thursday accompanied by a one-minute-and-12-second video, Owens announced that he introduced a bill in the U.S. House to build a new post office in Saratoga Springs.

The measure would transfer a little more than 20 acres of Bureau of Land Management land in the city to the U.S. Postal Service for the construction of a new post office.

If approved, the bill, dubbed the the Saratoga Springs Post Office Act, would reportedly ensure the facility is built and operational within two years, according to Owens.

The proposed post office site would sit just west of Mountain View Corridor and north of state Route 73, providing postal service for citizens of Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and portions of Lehi.

Residents in the aforementioned cities currently rely on Lehi’s long-standing post office, located in the heart of the city’s Main Street thoroughfare — though, just a few miles south of that facility, neighboring American Fork also has a post office.

According to Owens, the new facility would accommodate the growing portion of Utah County, “delivering shorter lines, faster service, and the infrastructure Utahns deserve,” he said.

“Utahns in Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and Lehi have been forced to rely on a single, overcrowded post office, which is unacceptable for one of the fastest-growing regions in the country,” Owens said in a statement. “Since 2021, I’ve been fighting to fix it, listening to constituents impacted and bringing these issues to the highest levels of government. On Pioneer Day, I’m proud to introduce a common sense solution: legislation to build a new post office in Saratoga Springs, which will deliver faster service, shorter lines, and the modern infrastructure our communities deserve.”

The bill states that, if approved, it would require the U.S. Postal Service to construct and begin operations of a new post office within two years of enactment.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Jim Miller said he and the City Council favor the proposed legislation and are grateful for the efforts thus far by Owens to make it a reality.

“This legislation addresses a longstanding need in our community and reflects years of collaboration with our congressional delegation,” Miller said in a statement. “Once enacted, the bill will bring essential postal services to Saratoga Springs and our neighboring communities, supporting the needs of our growing population.”

Leaders in Lehi and Eagle Mountain are also seemingly on board with the bill.

“Our population is booming and we are in desperate need of an additional post office to ensure that residents continue to have timely mail delivery and access to critical services,” Lehi Mayor Mark Johnson said.

Eagle Mountain Mayor Tom Westmoreland said the measure would be beneficial to residents in his city as well.

“I fully support the establishment of a post office in Saratoga Springs. Eagle Mountain residents have long needed a more conveniently located facility, and this is a step in the right direction for our growing region,” he said.
