An ordinance to rezone a west Provo property to build a new warehouse was unanimously approved by the Provo City Council on Tuesday.

The property, located at approximately 3185 W. and 5050 South, will rezone from agricultural to airport industrial, matching the zoning of properties where warehouses sit to the east and the south.

Provo Planning Supervisor Aaron Ardmore said the proposal is to remove an existing home from the property to install a warehouse that will tie into the adjacent sites.

“This property is generally planned for this use, it’s matching the uses adjacent to it, it’s on a road — 550 South — that is essentially a dead end to the airport property and staff finds this a good use for the property,” Ardmore said.

Applicant Joel Pilling owns two of the warehouses next to the property and called the proposal “a nice looking project.”

“They’ll look the same in the HOA byline. We don’t rent to cabinet shops, guys like me in construction, they’re all online retailers down there now,” he said.

Councilwoman Rachel Whipple voiced her approval for the project, calling the existing warehouses “well kept.”

“I ride my bike down here a lot, so I get to see the property, and I just want to say that it’s always completely well kept,” she said. “You have lovely buildings, the grounds are maintained and everything. And so I’m really happy that you have this chance to expand. I love seeing good people who are investing in the community and making it more useful and more beautiful for everyone else around us.”

No community members commented on the proposal during a public hearing session.
