Significant enhancements are coming to the backside of Sundance Mountain Resort.

Utah County’s lone ski resort announced plans last week to build the “Electric Horseman Express,” a 1,850-vertical-foot lift that will go from Wildwood Base to Bearclaw Summit in six minutes.

The new lift will provide easy access to 165 acres of new skiing and snowboarding space, including a bowl adjacent to Bishop’s Bowl.

“The addition of the Electric Horseman Express will transform how our guests experience the back mountain, allowing skiers and riders to lap all of the new and existing terrain in a single high-speed lift ride,” Sundance Chief Operating Officer Czar Johnson said in a release.

Prior to the lift’s opening, Sundance will also add nine ski trails to the backside in time for the 2025-26 winter season, consisting of a groomed run down the Far East Ridge and a mixture of tree runs, chutes and intermediate runs.

“The expanded acreage gives locals even more reason to choose Sundance Resort for their season pass, and provides our traveling guests enough variety to make our new Inn at Sundance their home base for exploration,” Johnson said.

Since Sundance Mountain Resort founder Robert Redford sold the ski resort to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners in 2020, the new ownership has set out to revitalize the slopes.

Sundance opened the Outlaw Express Lift in 2021, carrying skiers to the Mandan Summit in seven minutes. In 2024, Sundance opened “The Springs,” which include three relaxing pools, changing rooms and an outdoor sauna at the base of the resort.

Sundance is also currently constructing a new lodge simply called the “Inn” at the resort’s base. Aimed to open in early 2026, the 63-room property will offer visitors ski-in/ski-out accommodations.

Resort officials expect the new lift and terrain expansion to further modernize the park.

“This project represents Sundance Mountain Resort’s most significant mountain expansion since 1985 and will further elevate the ski/rider experience on our mountain while offering new view corridors and perspectives never seen before – one of the reasons I am personally excited for the new Far East ridge run,” said Sundance President and General Manager Chad Linebaugh.
