Christopher Suiter, 50, was driving south in a Jeep when a blue Kia heading north went over the cable barrier, became airborne and struck the Jeep, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Suiter and the Kia driver, Riley Durst, 19, of Draper, were both killed instantly, UHP reported.
It is unknown why the Kia went airborne into oncoming traffic. The UHP report said the vehicle went from the far right lane across three lanes of traffic and through median, then through the cable barrier, sheering it off and becoming airborne.
A GoFundMe campaign for the Suiter family was started by Katie Higley, who said the family also suffered the death of their son, Brian, on May 7. As of Wednesday afternoon, over $16,000 was raised with a goal of $50,000.
“Our hearts are broken for the Suiter family, who have experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” Higley said. “Two heartbreaking losses in such a short time is more than any family should ever have to endure. There is not life insurance, leaving the family to cover all funeral expenses out of pocket.”
