Letter: Rep. Curtis is key leader on GOP energy, climate vision

By Staff | Aug 25, 2022

The heat waves and severe drought punishing Utah this summer are yet another sign that America needs a coherent strategy to confront climate change. And that’s why I’m grateful we have a leader like Rep. John Curtis in Washington.

Rep. Curtis is a key player in advancing a Republican agenda to enhance U.S. energy independence, make energy more affordable, and grow our economy while helping the world reach our climate goals. This agenda will deliver the polar opposite of what we’ve seen under Joe Biden: soaring gas prices, higher emissions, a looming recession and an energy crisis engulfing our European allies.

A tool gaining support in Congress would help realize this vision: a border carbon adjustment. This policy rewards clean U.S. producers and holds big polluting countries accountable for their emissions. It’s an approach that fits right in with the Republican energy agenda that Rep. Curtis is leading and can propel forward if Republicans take back the House in November.

In short order, Rep. Curtis has become a go-to leader on climate and energy policy. Last year, he founded of the House Conservative Climate Caucus, helping to nudge his fellow Republicans toward a more proactive stance on this pressing environmental issue. Now, as a member of the House Republican’s Energy, Climate, and Conservation Task Force, he will be instrumental in rolling out a series of new policies. Rep. Curtis deserves our thanks and praise for his important work to restore American energy leadership and meet our climate goals.
