Letter: Grateful for legislation from Curtis
Technology is essential to our everyday lives. I know this first hand as a former college and graduate student who used technology daily for class, homework, and to connect with family and friends. Now, I use technology to forward my career as well as use smart home devices to make my daily tasks easier. I value what these devices do for me, but I am also passionate about my privacy rights and when my data is stored or shared without my knowledge.
Consumers have the right to know everything an app, device, or appliance can do before they bring it into their lives and their homes. Thankfully, the Informing Consumers About Smart Devices Act, a bill introduced by Representative Curtis, prioritizes the safety of Americans in their homes. Passed in the House on September 29th, this law will require smart device makers to inform consumers if their product has a camera or microphone, helping consumers make informed decisions and encouraging transparency throughout the tech industry. Thank you, Representative Curtis, for having our backs and pushing for improved privacy standards!
