Letter: Students owed apology for racial slur debacle

Oct 24, 2022

Do you have the courage to call out Tom Holmoe for his outrageous actions related to the BYU student body/fans at the Duke/BYU Volleyball game where Holmoe essentially called BYU fans racist or at least accused them of racist behavior? I understand from reporting that he immediately met with the person who was ultimately exposed as someone perpetuating a hoax….now that the whole thing has been correctly identified as 100% bogus, are we now going to demand that Holmoe apologize to the students he slighted?

Why has Holmoe not made a formal apology via Twitter or other means? Should he not be as quick to make amends to the BYU Students and others who were unfairly accused in this debacle?

And apparently, he is penalizing BYU Students by not letting them sit in designated areas in the arena?…again, if true, it is outrageous and needs to be addressed.

Final point…it is my understanding that the person who was accused of the racist behavior was an individual with special needs, someone who did not deserve to be put in this mess. Has this person been contacted and apologized to as well?

Do you have the courage to print this or are we just going to sweep it under the rug and move on, pretend that it did not happen?

Thank you for the opportunity to share. I await your response.
