Guest opinion: Legislative reform suggestions for Utah
It is my experience that offering solutions goes much further than simply complaining. Offered solutions, if nothing else, can help the creative juices flow so that great solutions can be imagined and implemented.
With that spirit in mind, these are broad strokes of my thoughts in three areas of legislation that I believe will benefit every U.S. citizen who lives in Utah. These thoughts have already been emailed to every member of Utah’s executive and legislative branches.
- Illegal immigrants.
- Utah’s education system.
- Strengthen the trustworthiness of Utah’s government.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
- Declare the invasion of Utah by illegal immigrants the invasion it is, and fix it.
- For illegal immigrants that are a convicted criminal here, at home or anywhere else:
- Call to duty our Utah National Guard and every policing agency in our state to forcefully remove each invader that is both illegal and a criminal.
- Pass a law(s) banning all illegal immigrants who have been convicted of a crime, regardless of where the crime was committed, from Utah for a period of time equivalent to a full sentence for that crime — up to and including banning them for life.
- For those illegal immigrants that are non-criminal, positive contributors to society:
- Find ways to accommodate/work with these individuals and families that our federal government has allowed into our country. Don’t give away the bank in doing this.
- Pass a law(s) requiring the ability to speak, read and write in English for immigrants to stay here long-term, more than three years.
UTAH’S EDUCATION SYSTEM
- Ban the federal government and anybody else that is not a Utah citizen from having any say or control in what happens in the education of Utah’s children, K-12.
- Ban from Utah all education and teacher unions and associations that are not based in Utah and solely for Utah educators. Give our principals and school districts the power they need to do their job.
- Stop indoctrinating our children; EDUCATE them.
- Revamp the way our entire school system is funded, K-graduate school.
- Put God, our Eternal Father, his Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost back in our schools.
- Give power back to the parents or guardians, total control, of all decision making for their minor children under the age of 18.
STRENGTHEN THE TRUSTWORTHINESS OF UTAH’S GOVERNMENT
- Outlaw all political parties in Utah.
- Campaign reform:
- Use today’s technology to build an online system that will allow any adult Utah citizen that is a U.S. citizen to run for office without having to spend money.
- Outlaw the raising and spending of money in Utah for purpose of campaigning for office in Utah, any office, including president.
- Allow only candidates themselves with a small team of assistance to campaign for office in Utah. Don’t allow outsiders to campaign in Utah for individuals, issues or anything else.
- Voting reform:
- Go back to in-person only voting and require proof of your U.S. citizenship for those that want to vote.
- Declare voting dates as non-work days or at least make it mandatory that you are allowed sufficient time off work so that people can vote.
If you like my ideas, or have ideas of your own, please, let every elected person in our great state, Utah, hear your voice. All things are possible when we seek solutions together.
