Letter: Name change needed

By Staff | Jan 12, 2022

Governor Cox has recently established that an adult’s right to not wear a mask is more important to Republicans than a child’s right to a hospital bed or even a school desk.

The word “republican” has long been associated with attentiveness to the safety, health, and education of the rising generations. The Governor’s decision to partially overrule county mask mandates by treating state buildings like royal fiefs and state employees like exempt nobility does its best to nix that clear and essential priority.

It will now be necessary to change the name of the party from the Repub party to the Repo party, since state functionaries seem intent upon repossessing the power of the people to set health prevention policy in their own counties.

Kids can’t learn when they are sick, especially if they are forced to suffer long-term physical effects stemming from the legislature’s politicization of public health science.

Whatever happened to erring on the side of caution? Parents, good business managers, and public servants have traditionally been known for doing so.
