Letter: A bold change to the 2nd Amendment

By Staff | Jul 16, 2022

I read, in the Friday, July 8th, edition of the Daily Herald, John Stossel’s comments regarding “Change the Constitution.” He lists many changes that seem to be needed. In my opinion, there’s another change that needs to be taken that he did not mention… delete the 2nd Amendment. That Amendment talks about “a well regulated militia” and “the right to keep and bear arms.” A “militia” when the Constitution was written, was made up of civilians who would be called up to fight and defend America in the even of a war. We don’t need a militia any more. We have an Army, Navy, and Air Force approximately 3 million strong who are well-armed and who can do the fighting in the event America gets caught up in a war. Further, deleting that Amendment would reduce (or eliminate) authorization to have guns and would reduce the shooting and killing of citizens (yes, including children) across America. So, Let’s do it!
