Letter: Dreading the possibility of a ‘future Trump presidency’

By Staff | Sep 13, 2023

A Deseret News article on August 27, 2023, had a captivating title and a disquieting subtitle: “The most powerful Utahn you’ve never heard of could be America’s next Vice president.” The subtitle is “Robert O’Brien’s name is being floated for high-profile positions in a future Trump Administration.”

If integrity matters at all, there should be no “future Trump administration.”

This article seems to have omitted several very important facts regarding the possibility of “another Trump Administration.” As of the current date, candidate Trump has been held liable in a civil court by a jury of his peers for defamation and sexual abuse. Also, there are several indictments against the former president currently being prosecuted in criminal courts.

My serious question in reaction to this article is: Why would someone who believes so strongly in “family, faith and country” consider associating himself with a former president who does not share any of these values?

Senator Hirono, of the Senate Judiciary Committee asks every judicial nominee the following questions:

1. Since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors or committed any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature?

2. Have you ever faced discipline or entered into a settlement related to this kind of conduct?

Perhaps these two questions should be asked of every presidential candidate as well.

My one precious vote will be given to a candidate that I have thoroughly researched and believe has ethics, moral values and sincerely puts the constitution and the country first. Finding truth and reality, I sincerely hope integrity and justice do matter and there will not be a “future Trump administration.”
