Letter: Trump is not like Book of Mormon villains
Wow! Where do I begin! I can no longer remain silent! First Gadianton Robbers, now Korihor? The Gadianton article was flawed. Claiming the GOP and Trump to be modern day Gadianton robbers. Many LDS members recognize similarities. But not close to what the author implied. Men like Lincoln, Reagan and even Kennedy, couldn’t be GR’s. Though far from perfect, these men had one thing in common. A love for this country and an overwhelming desire for it and its people to be better off. They were men needed in a critical moment of our history. Now it’s “Korihor.” Korihor spoke against a Christ. Saying there is none. Yet I hear more references to god and country from Trump and feel more patriotic when he speaks than all others combined. The opposite of Korihor. Many of us don’t have the accolades shown by the article’s author. Does that make us less apt to recognize the difference between good and evil? Trump is no saint. Yet, by today’s standards only a saint is allowed to be president. Sorry, but that’s not reasonable nor obtainable. I know Trump says things that are offensive. I also know that being offended is a choice. His Mt. Rushmore speech was as patriotic as they get. Leaving no doubt he loves this country, its rich history and has an overwhelming desire for it to be better. Articles that insult, along with the two noun combined strategy only shows vitriol and disdain. Alma wasn’t offended saying, “save it be your word only.” I have one question, why are so many motivated to see Trump go? They’ve tried to bankrupt him, to impeach him, twice! To remove him from election ballots. The list goes on. But he’s a felon! Throw enough darts, someone will shout bullseye. The election is over. A nation has spoken. A majority of us woke up the next morning with an overwhelming feeling of relief. Why is that?
