I am concerned about his statement that the “democrats” are funneling money through the Stronger Orem P.A.C. to control what happens in our city. Why would “democrats” care about a non-partisan municipal election in Orem, Utah? I have since heard variations of that rumor from other sources. It tells me that this election is about to turn nasty and it will be hard to know what is true and what is not. I’ve seen the same kind of inflammatory twisting of truth into malicious misinformation in the past several elections and it’s not a good thing.

I’m sure those who are running for City Council/mayor are all good people. However, I have noticed that some candidates up for re-election behave as if the end justifies the means. In other words, it doesn’t matter how you get to your goal if you believe your goal is right. I personally think the process is as important as the end goal.

City officials must honor the council process. In the council process, members meet with open minds to discuss issues. They get real public input and not just opinions from one point of view. They discuss the issues in good faith, without personal agendas or grouping together to gain control. After considering many factors, the council makes the best decision for Orem as a whole. Working together peacefully is what brings power to the decision-making process. Division and contention will only destroy the “family-centered values” that are much spoken of.

In the past city officials have bypassed the council process to reach their goals. I don’t think we need a repeat of that! Choose wisely in the upcoming general election!
