Helen Joyce (Ashman) Rawson
Helen Joyce (Ashman) Rawson was the oldest daughter of her parents, Charles Harold and Verda Cloy (Miner) Ashman. She was born on June 12, 1930 in Murray, Utah. Like her father and 2 of her siblings, she always went by her middle name. She grew up in the Salt Lake Valley, and graduated from Jordan High School in 1949. She attended BYU, and received a BS Degree in Education in 1952, 3 months after her marriage to Richard R. Rawson from Santa Barbara, California. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, while Richard was on leave from his position as artillery instructor in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. 50 years, 6 children, and numerous grandchildren later, Joyce lost her eternal companion to Alzheimers in 2002. She has been waiting for over 19 years to return to him. That joyous reunion took place on November 27, 2021, as she left this world peacefully in her sleep to go to a better one. She was preceded in death by 3 of her 4 siblings: Marilyn (Richard) Ashby, Harold Lowell (Edie) Ashman, and Sheryl (Dent) Taylor; she is survived by her youngest brother, Alan Kent (Mary) Ashman. She was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons and a great-granddaughter. Her six children and their spouses await the day that they can be reunited with their loving and devoted mother: Dawn (Doug) Sorensen, Ron (Liz) Rawson, Mary (Shane) McEwen, Brian (Linda) Rawson, Carol (Ramon) Navarrete, and David (Christy) Rawson, as well as her 33 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, who affectionately called her “GG.” Joyce had many talents; she was a wonderful teacher, played the piano and organ and enjoyed singing and listening to music, loved to cook, listened attentively and compassionately to friends and family, prayed sincerely and often, cared for her children and grandchildren with great love, and absolutely loved to play games with them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her or were influenced by her in some way, but we are grateful to know that Joyce is now reunited with her loved ones that preceded her in death, and that she is very happy to be where she is now. She was always very grateful for her knowledge and testimony of the Savior and His gospel, and the comforting assurance that families can be together forever.
