Dale Ross Carver

Dec 15, 2021

1932 — 2021

Dale Ross Carver, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home in Provo, Utah on Father’s Day, June 20, 2021. He was born in Boise, Idaho, on April 5, 1932. Dale was a 1950 graduate of Boise High School. He went on to Brigham Young University for 3 years then served an L.D.S. Church mission to Stockholm, Sweden, for 2 ½ years. He served as a mission secretary and worked with another missionary who was the mission president’s secretary, Sister Elsa Johanson.

After his mission, Dale returned to complete his studies at BYU and earned a bachelor’s degree in Retail Management. Elsa became Dale’s wife on May 31, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dale and Elsa recently celebrated their 64 years of marriage. Dale served in the high school and college ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps), then joined the Air Force and became a chaplain. Dale left the military with the rank of Captain and afterwards, they raised their four children in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He and his wife then came “home” to Provo, Utah where they have lived since 1985. Dale worked as a businessman and a salesman. He worked for a time as a life insurance salesman and later traveled around the country selling and trading native American pottery and jewelry. He then obtained his real estate license in New Mexico and went on to edit the local Utah County Homes Illustrated Magazine. He also loved woodworking and would make many different carvings — a very talented and prolific “Carver.” His walking canes and wood “spirits” were well known.

He is survived by his wife, Elsa, and their four children, Lorene (Jim) Standring of Crescent City, California; Darsi (Ken) Gibbs of Pocatello, Idaho; Kendell (Veronica) Carver of Beaverton, Oregon; and Caralee (Clay) Crye of Lehi, Utah. He has 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Parker Pratt Carver and Eugenia Erickson, and a great-grandson, Crew Standring. Dale was the youngest of five children and they preceded him in death: Merrill Carver, Connie Swensen, an infant brother, and Donna Carver. Only Connie and Dale survived to adulthood and lived in the same house in Provo along with Dale’s wife Elsa for the past 36 years.

Services have been held, along with graveside military honors at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Provo, Utah. Arrangements were by Berg Mortuary. An obituary and online guestbook are available on their website.

Starting at $4.32/week.
