JOYE WIMMER

Dec 30, 2021

Our beloved mom and nana passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 in Springville, Utah. Joye was born on August 25, 1941 to Joe and Velda Widdison. She lived in Charleston, Utah for her first nine years, before moving to Springville. Joye married Bill Wimmer, her high school sweetheart, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on November 22, 1960. She had planned to break up with him after their senior prom, but then she fell in love. Bill chased after Joye and then they chased after their dreams together.

They spent nearly 61 years building a beautiful life together. Their world revolved around their two children, Jeff and Jenni. To say that Joye loved being a mom, would be an understatement. Nothing brought her more joy than to see her two children happy. She created magic. Holidays and birthdays were celebrated, family time was valued, and dreams were nurtured. Through her actions, Joye taught her children to love hard, serve with kindness, and always show up.

Following a year of college, Joye worked as a secretary at Central Bank in Springville for 12 years. There are “rumors” about her setting off the bank alarm, flocking Christmas trees inside, and many other shenanigans that drove Uncle Fay over the edge. After her children were grown, Joye began working at the Springville Jr High. She made lifelong friendships there and loved the kids.

Joye had an adventurous spirit and was full of life. Tuesdays were considered sacred and were reserved for Ladies Day at Hobble Creek Golf Course. Golfing brought her so much joy and gave her an opportunity to practice her four-letter words. She loved her golfing friends and served as the treasurer for the Hobble Creek Ladies Golf Association for close to 30 years. Joye loved family trips to Lake Powell, the Sand Dunes, the St. George townhouse, and the cabin. Adventures to Hawaii, NYC, and Europe brought her great happiness. While she enjoyed being on the go, Joye was happiest at home with the people she loved.

Joye loved Springville and her close connections in the community. Some of her favorite activities included shopping at Reams, getting drinks at Brookside, and eating at La Casita. The youth held a special place in her heart. She served in various church callings, but especially loved working in the Young Women’s organization. Joye didn’t have mere acquaintances in town, if you knew her, she was either your second mom, nana, or aunt.

Joye cherished being a nana. Chelcie, Jessie, and Chlo’ were her everything. She loved to listen to their stories, drive them anywhere, and was always there to cheer them on. Nana’s house was always a place to grab a snack, a cozy spot to rest, and pick up some cash when needed. Becoming a great-nana was a highlight in her life. Jaxon delighted her soul and Capri and Swaizie filled her life with sunshine. When she couldn’t hold their hand, she held them close in her heart.

Joye and Bill’s last year was filled with walks, drives to Sonic, and watching Grit. She treasured their quiet moments together. When Bill died, less four months ago, Joye could not imagine her life without him. She spent the last few months soaking up moments with her family and friends. But in the end, she decided she wanted to chase after Bill. It was fitting that he came to pick her up in a snowstorm. We will miss her warm hugs, bright smile, and the mischievous twinkle in her eye.

She is survived by her son Jeff (Shea), daughter Jenni, granddaughters Chelcie Wimmer (Jesse Sumsion), Jessie Wimmer (Ryland Barney), and Chlo’ Wimmer, great-grandson Jaxon Wimmer and great-granddaughters Capri and Swaizie Sumsion. Her brother Jack Widdison, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held Sunday evening, January 2, 2022 from 6-8 pm at Spring Creek Mortuary, 737 North Main Springville, UT. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11 am at the Spring Creek 1st Ward Meetinghouse, 860 East 200 North Springville, UT, with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 am

We would like to thank Joye’s friends and family for their love and support since Bill’s passing. And a special thank you to Dr. Julie Widdison, for the love and care she gave to her Aunt Joye in her final moments, “she trusted you”. Julie provided such peace and strength to all of us.
