Mary Carolyn Rutschow Allan
Mary Carolyn Rutschow Allan passed away at her home on November 17, 2021. She was born in Herkimer, New York, to Frederick Henry and Amelia Tebbe Rutschow on March 21, 1934. They moved to Baltimore where she joined the Girl Scouts and fell in love with Scouting.
At 18, Mary joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She married Lt. Abraham Noble Allan on February 6, 1954 in Baltimore and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple five days later. They lived around the US and Europe. After Abe retired from the Army, they moved to Spanish Fork, Utah. Mary graduated from BYU in geography and mathematics education and volunteered at the schools for many years.
She served in every ward she lived in. In 1993 Abe and Mary served in the Florida Tallahassee Mission. When they came home, she became the 11-year-old Scout leader for the next 17 years. She loved working with the boys and they loved her.
Mary loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to Disneyland and any place with a beach. In 2007 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but by 2011 it had metastasized to the bone. She fought it as hard as she could, beating the odds for over 14 years.
Abe and Mary were married for 67 years. They had seven children: Carol (Jim Collett), Ruth, Frank (Melea), Fred (Paula), Abe Jr. (Kelly), James (Jeanette), and John (Kelly). She is survived by her husband Abe, six children, 27 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, half brother Phillip, and son Abraham Jr.
