Stephen H Whitlock

Oct 27, 2021

1946 – 2021

Our beloved, big-hearted father, grandfather, and friend, Stephen H Whitlock, 74, of Provo, passed away Saturday October 23, 2021. Steve was born December 12, 1946 to Dale C and Bessie Bell Whitlock in Richfield, UT. He graduated from Provo High in 1965 and served in the National Guard from 1966-1972. Steve met Shiela McDaniel in Jr High, they dated for a short time, then one night after graduation while dragging Center Street in Provo they were reunited and fell in love all over again They were married on July 7, 1967. The love they had for each other was infectious and beautiful.

Steve worked for Harmon’s and Wards body shops, along with many repairs and paint jobs that he did in his garage at his home. In 1975, Steve decided to start his own business, Steve Whitlock Auto Body. He treated his employees like family. To this day, he still has a few of the same crew that he has built a lifelong relationship with. Steve was a mentor to many. He ran the business until 1999, then decided it was time to retire and let the kids run the shop so he could build and restore hot rods and classic cars. His love for Fords and fast cars kept him busy for many years. He has built and restored too many cars to count. Steve was truly a pioneer in the collision repair industry in Utah County.

His favorite thing to do was to attend every car show that he could. He has traveled to many and has won numerous awards; his cars and truck have been featured in national magazines. He has made so many dear friends and loved his car show family.

Steve served in many callings in the church, but his greatest calling was being a Temple worker at the Provo Temple. He served there for many years and made lifetime friends that he held very dear to his heart. In 2011, he had a stroke and had to take a year off; he could not wait to get back to serving the lord.

Family was everything to Steve. He loved getting together on holidays or just because. He was so supportive in everyone’s activities. He traveled all over the country to watch and support his boys race motorcycles, a tradition he started in 1969. Our family saying is “The family that plays together, stays together” and this could not be more true to him.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shiela; four children, Travis (Lexie) Whitlock, Stephanie (Lonny) Larsen, Nichole (Paul) Lambert, and Brandon (Angela) Whitlock; 13 grandkids and 6 great-grandkids, all who loved and adored him dearly. Sister, Janet (Tim) Williams; brother, Todd (Lisa) Whitlock; and sister-in-law, Pat Whitlock. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dale Lind Whitlock and Ross Whitlock.
