1948 — 2021

Dan Royal Murphy, 73, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, after five months of enduring a myriad of medical issues. Dan was born on August 2, 1948 in Provo, Utah to Elaine Parry Murphy and Royal Dow Murphy.

With bright blue eyes and a big smile, Dan was a lively kid. He was a Cub Scout, who loved exploring and adventure. He graduated from Orem High School with a love of cars, a lot of mischief, and lasting friendships.

After high school, his love of adventure continued. He was a member of the Zeta fraternity and often shared great memories of a solo cross-country road trip, 30-days in the wilderness as part of a BYU survival course, and drumming in a band called The Toads.

He loved the outdoors and could often be found hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting, or 4-wheeling. He was always on a quest to improve himself and enjoyed reading and learning about health.

Throughout his career he worked in construction, building miniature golf courses, as a scarfer at Geneva Steel, and as a salesman in the automotive industry.

In 1976, he married Dianne Jaehnig and gained a son, Murphy. In 1986, they adopted a daughter, Danielle.

He enjoyed speaking to people and sharing stories. He felt deeply and loved a lot. He especially loved his family and was so proud of them.

He is survived by his two children Murphy and Danielle, five grandchildren Shauntay, Karly, Kai, Kate, and Owen, two great-grandchildren Hayden and Hunter and his five siblings, Susan, Carl, Helen, Shaun, and Randy. He is preceded in death by his parents Elaine Parry and Royal Dow Murphy.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 14 with a Viewing at Utah Valley Mortuary from 9:00-10:15am and a Graveside Service at East Lawn Memorial Hills from 11:00-11:45am, followed by a bratwurst lunch up Provo Canyon.
